I’ve been looking for a left hand drive NC, top of the wish list being an 2.0 NC2 or 3 but being based in mainland Europe the vast majority of NCs I see are 1.8s. So if I’m shopping for 1.8s, is the NC1 also worth looking at? What are the drawbacks with going for that versus the later NCs when you ignore the changes that only impacted the 2.0s?

In 2024 I bought my first MX-5. This was a Galaxy grey NC1 Niseko 1.8 from 2009. Two months ago I changed to a Crystal white NC3 Sendo 1.8 from 2015. Both are on Einbach springs, so nice stance and great drive. I realy liked my NC1 and had no plans of selling in, but fell for the looks of the NC3. But that’s offcourse very personal. Apart from the changed front and rearbumper, I now have cruisecontrol and heated seats with 3 settings instead of 1 which I found not very useable. Also the NC3 has a original display headunit instead of the standaard radio in the NC1, but offcourse the displayunit is also quite outdated.
