My car last had it’s 12 month service in September '08, and since then i’ve covered 1,000 miles and was wondering what i should be changing now with regards to oil/air filters etc… before the next 12 month major service in September '09?
Well my car has had four new tyres so whilst it’s at the garage i figure i may as well get the oil changed too and then it’s on to a full service this September!
And yes i will try and use my car more whilst the sun is out[:)]
It needs no servicing - oil does not go off with time.
What you do need to do is keep the brakes and clutch “exercised”. If you put the car away wet or it is subject to damp/condensation, then the discs can corrode and the pads can stick. Also the clutch plate can stick to the flywheel.
I drove my car to the garage last week which is the first time i’ve driven it since February. The current oil like mentioned was changed on it’s last major service at Stafford Mazda last September and has only done approx 1,000 miles in that time. I heard that oil needs changing every 3,000 miles so i will leave it be until this coming September!
Regarding the stuck clutch/pads i get this a lot due to me not using my car much. I currently probably only do maybe 50 miles a month just to keep the engine ticking over and to top the battery up as i do have a problem sometimes with it not charging due to the car being sat there for months on end!
I can remember in the past Winter and also when i give my car a wash that when i move off the drive my brakes gave a bit of a ‘clunk’ as the pads are released from the discs, as mentioned i do take my car out occasionally just to keep things ticking over[:)]
According to the Mazda service guide, oil should be every 6000 miles (or 12 months) - 3000 miles is a bit OTT but nice to do!, my cars previous owner did it every 1500 miles!
I asked “Oilman” once, and he suggested that once a year with a high quality oil - I did mention an annual mileage of 10,000 miles - I was surprised!
I like to get mine done twice a year - so approx every 5000 miles.
