£300 brought me a 1995 Eunos S Special 1.8

I’ll tell you what, Dan. I think that this is such a huge part of enthusiastic car club motoring - having a product at the end of the day that you know you had a hand in creating. Every time I read about a build like this I follow it religiously, seeing photos of parts of the car that I’m not brave enough to tackle and yet it encourages yourself to do more to your own car. It doesn’t matter if it’s a ground-up restoration, fixing a number plate plinth or scavenging fleabay for chrome and bling - it makes you take part in your own car. This forum community on the whole is just great for that. It’s inspiring and I’m thanking you for your story. It’s been infectious reading Thumbs up

Now, how are those project speedsters getting along…

Very well put, Elvie. It’s like having our very own edition of wheeler dealers devoted just to MX-5s.

Great work!!

Makes me think about buying another one to ‘do up’… Problem is her indoors has insisted I decorate the house before getting any ideas of spending even more time with cars! Women, they just don’t understand…

well thank you for the input guys it’s appriciated.

I got the rear arch liners out today and cleaned up the arches before finally bolting down the rear legs of the roll bar. I’m looking at sorting the front brakes because they need new discs and pads really, the rears are in alright shape then it’s off for an MOT!

It’ll be a big thing for me to get it through the MOT and get it legal for the road, then I can look at a new hood etc.

Dan

Excellent write up, very comical bagging up all that dosh !!

I had a similar find years ago, 1980 MGB Roadster, bought for 1700, spent 700, sold for 3800. Thoroughly enjoyed ripping it apart and rebuilding/re painting it all myself, however, spending 12 to 14 hrs a day on my days off didnt go down to well with her indoors!  Dont think i’d do another full on restoration, but good luck to ya…

I’ve just bought a Eunos to do up. I don’t know why, it just appeared in my local garage and looked at me with big puppy dog eyes and I had to have it. On getting it home I wondered what on earth I had bought it for, and suffered a rampant  apathy attack. However after reading this thread (which I have only just seen) I feel the warm glow of enthusiasm creeping back into my old bones. Mine was only £250 and I found £1.24 in loose change in the glove box so it doesn’t quite match your bargain price, but I still thought it was a steal.

Excellent job and thanks for the inspiration. I will start surfing for a new soft top tonight!!

well pictures as promised!

The brake conversion, old disc against new! Just a little bit of extra material there!

and the new setup fitted with the painted callipers/carriers

and finished, after a quick wash after passing her MOT… gonna polish her up and sort out a new hood, then she really will be restored to a usable condition!

I can’t wait till Monday when I can get her on the road though!!!

Many thanks, see you all on the road soon

 :goodjob:

Good luck doing her up

The number plate is surely more than £300 so reckon youve got a bit of a bargain there!

today I fitted a set of MK2 alloys shod with toyo t1-r’s that I picked up last night, which got rid of those old wheels and I think has smartened up the car a right treat!

next thing is to actually drive the thing some more and a deep clean over the easter weekend!

Dan

I’d sort out the number plate if I were you (either fit it in the usual place, stick-on, small or offset); you are significantly blocking airflow to the radiator. The temperature gauge is non-linear, and dampened; the gauge only moves into the red zone once the engine is seriously overheating. The gauge can be modified to give a linear response. Continued hot running can lead to failures in the cooling fan (bushes, I don’t think this is serviceable) and probably reduced engine life.

this is truly amazing and so inspiring, i wish you and the car many happy years together it deserves to be looked after

what a transformation! Shock

the number plate is getting sorted, I have a client I’m seeing over the easter break who’s sorting out a stick on plate.

I Agree

well as you can imagine, with the car being on the road not a lot has happened as I’ve been out driving it!

In just over a week I’ve done north of 500 miles… I know, there’s a fuel crisis but I can’t help myself!

So I got my sign writer friend to make up and fit a new front plate, it’s a little less than legal but it’s clear and of the correct font. I’m going to carry the old plate in the car with some double sided tape ready to go should I get a tug though. I also noticed how my new wheels accentuate the size of the discs! they make the 2.5 sport setup look HUGE!

I also managed to fit the alarm that I’ve had sitting to go on and wired it up to the existing door locking motor in the drivers door, which is a delight! I’m going to run a feed to the back to operate the boot release button so I don’t have the faff around with the key in the stiff lock or the little flap trigger thingy, but it just makes the car so much more usable now as I don’t feel funny about leaving it places.

Eitherway, the car drives fantastically and I’m really chuffed with how it’s all turned out!

A few cheeky pics on the driveway

And photo bucket says I now have over 150 pictures on the folder for the car… o dear!

well gave it a quick wash today, nearly 1000miles into ownership and really impressed with it… can’t wait for some more sunny weather and an upcoming Euro trip if everything goes to plan!
