just thort id share this with you , filled up (30 squid) 23 jan, filled up yesterday 14th feb (30 squid) under 200kms travelled, all town drivin to from work etc[::(] now thats got to some low mpg maybe a record breaker?[:D] (18mpg was a guess just 2 get yor attention before u start [:P]) fuel 91p/(per litre) wot was the m.p.g.? last air/fuel filter change not known, but brakes nice and free suppose could be the exhaust/induction kit? or just the way i drive![^o)]… cool, record number 2, most smilies in one post[:$]
This requires two parts, at least using Google as a calculator.
First I typed “30 / 0.91” to get the number of litres (almost 33)
Then I typed “200 km per 32.967 litres in mpg” and it said:
(200 km) per (32.96700 litres) = 17.137201 miles per gallon
So it turns out that your 18mpg was a bit optimistic, but pretty close. For reference, I just put £30 in as well today, at a similar price, but I'd done slightly over 200 /miles/ which means slightly over 27.5mpg. 17 does sound a bit low, unless you've been in a lot of stationary traffic! Or absolutely ragging it in between - mine included at least some motorway driving with the umbrella down, and I do like accelerating... (that's UK gallons, of course. Mine comes out at about 23 mpUSg, goochie's at about 14mpUSg) Worse than you thought at your guestimate readings it works out at about 17.11 MPG
Change O2 sensor, plugs, leads and do a proper full tank fill up, reset the trip counter, drive until you need to refill and fill to the top again. Write down the amount of litres required to fill up and the KMs travelled then post back up with the data.
On the other hand, if it was 200 MILES rather than KMs you would have a healthier 27ish MPG.
Even with a binding handbrake and a leak in my manifold I was getting 25MPG (driving like I stole it)
Hi Goochie
thirsty thirsty … £30.00 / £0.91 = 32.96 ltr which equals 7.25 gal.
200 km = 124.27 miles divide that by 7.25 gal and = 17.14 MPG [:(]
hope you got a good paid job

I get about 16 mpg…
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> ...............from my Toyota Hilux Surf (petrol ) 3.0 V6 I’m not sure what my MX5 Mk 1 does but I know it is at least double what my truck does.thanks, so my car is drinker, will drive it like a lada (cant upset anyone, none of these motas left)will b hard car sounds awsome wen i “drive it like i stole it” ( i stole that too lol) and see wot happens. Then a good service and set timing, (hesitant) wots best settin, and then lambda sensor, where from presume jap part not avail from partco? oh well roll bar will hav 2 wait!!!
Mx5parts about £25 before postage
cheers halli, like ya mota top choice on colour. goochie
If it helps:
If I fill up my my car ('91 1.6) I get about 350 kilometres. I don’t hoon about everywhere, but don’t drive like someones nan either!
Aye, tiz the best colour
I get about 350 - 400km out of a tank now I’ve sorted the little problems I had. About 28mpg on average.
from ya last two posts 350kms to a tank should be about right, just need to tweak another 160kms, may try fairy liquid on the tyres apparently lowers tyre rolling resistance, therefore higher mpg, nah gonna give her a hug and a huge service, oh-err missis!, timing 14 degrees? find someone that still owns a timin light. plugs £8, f/filter £12,maybe leads £24, o2 sensor £27 missed any thing?.. job done, Goochie
-check how many spark plugs you have, you might have 8?! or even 12 with that kind of economy!! [;)]
my mk2 1.6 does roughly 28mpg in town and 35mpg on motorways
before spark plug and oil change it was 26mpg in town, 34mpg on motorways
maybe some little cheap service parts would help to increase your mpg by little amount
This might sound a bit strange but are you sure its recording km?
Some imports have had steppers put in to make the original speedo show mph and just covered up the K from before. The mileage on some of these (like mine was) now shows miles.
I was also going to say…are you sure it’s definately kms and not miles ?
Is it possible someone has ‘converted’ the speedo but not changed the dial reading ?
You’d have to drive like a complete @rse with a hole in your tank to do that bad wouldn’t you ?
Thats where im coming from Ady, It sounds like the km recording has been switched - unless of course the OP drives a known distance (the longer the better) and does a trip meter comparison.
My car came from Japan with km, was converted and then recorded miles on top (so I really dont know the exact distance covered) and now converted back to KM’s as I has a separate issue with he way it worked.
Obviously around town short trips is going to be bad for mileage anyway.
Ouch…something amiss one thinks…
Our Mk1 97 Classic has just been on a 400mile blast upto Ayr and back (to N Yorkshire) and returned just over 36mpg. In fairness, the car had just been serviced and is in good order generally. I do my own servicing on the 5 as previous experiences with garages haven’t been the best. It’s an easy car to work on and I record everything (parts, oil receipts etc).
Hope you find out why your’s is only returning 18mpg…
Regards
Mark
Sounds like its in Kms doesn’t it, but in this sort of weather with lots of stop start town driving, (and wheel spin!) where you really don’t move very far or fast then possibly could be mpg…
An 18mpg kind of figure would not be uncommon on a track day in a 5… im fact it would probably be less than that…
thanx for all ya input, gonna try an not drive like an ar5e, [6], bout speedo total miles covered 151000 (sorry kms) was told by car dealer/sellar [^o)]bout 90 odd thousand miles so presumed trip measures in kms too? or is there a possibility it now reads in miles, …[*-)] gonna have to take her out over a measured distance any way gonna service her ova weekend and name her amy ( after winehouse apparently she drinks too! [;)])
