1998 Mazda MX-5 MK2 1.6

After some years with rather mediocre cars (currently driving a  1998 Corsa 1.2!), I have just purchased a 1998 Mazda MX-5 MK2 1.6 in British Racing Green and I pick it up on Sunday and I can’t tell everyone how excited I am - and I am 44!  When I took the car for a test drive last weekend I could not believe how good it held the road; it felt like it was on rails.

I am looking forward to owning this car for many years to come.  Thanks to Kev (who I bought the car from via the Forum) for selling me such a fantastic car.

Dave (Linthwaite, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire)

Welcome. It looks like a great car.  Did you buy the hardtop as well?

      Chris.

I did indeed.  I thought it made sense - both from an aesthetic and from a security point of view.  I think they look great anyway and I suspect if and when I come to sell it - which won’t be for a while - it’s a good selling point!

Here’s looking forward to Sunday!

Dave

Hi there Alan.  Thanks for the email and thanks for offering advice - I may take you up on that one day!

I actually can’t believe how good a MX5 is to drive - I thoroughly enjoyed the drive back from Lancashire after picking the car up.  And definitely interested in the run - sounds very scenic.

Cheers.

 Dave

Congrats & Welcome to the forum

Plenty of happy miles waiting to take place this week no doubt.

greetings

Thanks for the welcome.  Yes, I am thinking whether I need to drive to Land’s End or John O’Groats but feel that would be too execessive!  I am, however, looking forward to driving with the top down; it’s still a bit too nippy for that at the moment though!

 Cheers.
Dave

Thanks for the wecome.

Dave

You’ll be surprised how effective the heater is in a 5. Wear a hat, coat and gloves and enjoy topless driving!!  [:D]

Hi Dave,

As sword so correctly said!

Get that top down lad!Big Smile, you’ll be surprised how nice it actually is with the top down in Winter with the heater on full whack! the MX-5 is blessed with such a good heater system, that on a cold day with the top down all you notice is the lovely open air and the 5 driving experience which is something to savourSmile

Cheers

Ben

The heater in the mark 2 is fantastic…you will have the top down and still have to turn down the heat!! I drive most of the time with my top down…tip for you, make sure you have some of the heat directed at your feet and you will wonder why you ever had the top up!

ditto the last 2 posts + a bit of heat on the hands for us wrinkleys.
