Where in the country are you? Pitlane seem to have a good reputation, based in Kent:
I’m almost by the coast in East Sussex, between Battle and Hastings so Kent works well for me but I don’t mind to look further than that for the right one.
I reached my replies daily limit, apparently. In regards to the tyres that’s what’s worry me, the fact that if the last owner had the car since 2014 and only did the bare minimum just to keep it running maybe at almost 100k miles is not a great idea. I know that they are almost bullet proof machines but still.
Again only a view and a test drive will be able to clarify things.
Hello everyone, once again thank you very much for the help and advice here. I just wanted to post an update saying that I went to check the car and now that I drove one I definitely understand why these little gems are so much loved. I had a little drive and enjoyed every single moment of it, the engine was running well, the steering wheel was planted and the be honest it was definitely torquier than I was anticipating.
Unfortunately my gut feeling told me to not proceed with this particular one though, the suspension have been replace but only in the rear and with standard ones, not Bilstein which mean knowing myself I will have to change them all, and the same goes for the tyres which are currently unpaired. On the top of that, in person, the overall paint job wasn’t in great conditions, I would say a combination of poor care, age but also poorly made touch ups here and there especially around the hard top. As people mentioned the online service history of the car wasn’t great and I also found that damage was reported front and back, which in the bigger scheme of things didn’t make me feel fully comfortable in pulling the trigger.
Once more, thank you everyone for the help and support.
I bought one a recently and looked at several, my main advice is to buy on condition and service history and to trust your gut.
I was initially looking for a 2014-15 and almost pulled the trigger on one but it had some rust/paint issues that weren’t apparent in pictures and that the dealer didn’t disclose, even when I was there about to look at it and specifically asked him about it, didn’t get good vibes from the dealer either after asking some more questions. That car is still for sale over a month later.
I ended up buying a 2010 that was in immaculate condition and with a proper full service history and don’t regret it at all.
Good luck!
Thank you for your input as well. That’s exactly what I am going to do, wait for the one that I am going to be confident about; I already have a fun car so I’m not in rush to buy one right here, right now.
In the meantime I will lurk around and try to educate myself as much as possible on this edition and its customisation possibilities.
I did the same and travelled a lot of miles before I found mine.
Always worth the wait!
I guess that’s what I’m going to end up doing as well although, now that I know about Pitlane Performance at least I have some nearer.
