Not just me then! That went to the recycling centre. The drive still bears the scars. I was going to try the funnel and plastic tube approach next time, as I’ve used that with sucess for front wheel drive cars.
On this topic I’ve remembered that my Morris Minor used engine oil in the gearbox. I can only assume it wasn’t heavily loaded enough to require an EP oil. Never had any problems, but only had it for 20 odd years so maybe it was too soon to tell.
Another point to bear in mind is that SAE grades for gear oils and engine oils are not comparable. Despite the higher numbers, gear oils are not much more viscous than engine oils. An SAE80 gear oil has about the same viscosity as an SAE30 engine oil. Strange but true.
