7-2-09 Tyne Tees Tech day - All welcome

These days have been very successful in the past and are great fun. We have carried out work ranging from a simple polish to a full suspension replacement and Aircon removal.
Date: Saturday 7th February 2009.
(this date could be subject to change depending on when my eldest son’s operation is sheduled)

Time: 9:00am until 5:00pm or when everyone disappears.

Cost: £5 per car. This is a contribution to the owner of the premises for letting us use them.

This event is open to members and non members - it is not funded by the OC, it is funded by the participants.

The warehouse has electricity and an inspection pit which can accommodate two cars at a time. There is also space indoors for three further cars, space on the street outside and space on My Father-in-law's driveway for three - 4 cars

Refreshments available. Please bring some food to share

Meeting place: Newton's Removals
Beacon Street (street also called Brinkburn Court!)
North Shields
Tyne and Wear
NE30 1DQ

Please list what you can do (however small - e.g. polishing paintwork! Cleaning carpets/upholstery!)

Also list an idea of the type of work you'd like doing or help with on your car will help to plan the days work. Bring all of the tools you can fit into your five.
Possibilities for the day:
rejuvenating soft top seals (I'll provide the foam for free)
de-tangoing indicators
smoothing lights
painting bits and bobs
cleaning engine bays
coloured hoses
Stickers (if blackeunos can get the vinyl and cutter?)

basically any mods you fancy doing, bring the bits and give it a go.

Plus the usual oil changes etc.

Plan of action for my car:
Job 1 - over pit: Hacksaw off the bracket that attaches to the gearbox which used to hold the old manifold downpipe.
Job 2 - over pit: Undo all exhaust bolts, re-hang exhaust on rubbers and re-fit bolts and gaskets.
Job 3 - OFF PIT: Paint cam cover, washer bottle and expansion tank (YELLOW!!!) Won’t be able to move car after this until cam cover dry. Next jobs to be done whilst paint drying.

Job 4  Remove and re-fit the clutch slave cylinder. Bleed and replace clutch fluid. (Help required please)
Job 5 - off pit: Bleed and replace all brake fluid. (Help required please)
If I get time:

Remove tie down hooks at front and rear.
Fit grille
Replace wiring looms on front side markers.
Possibly paint center console and radio surround (Not decided on colour yet)
Finish shaving and polishing rear lights.
Shave and polish front indicators.

Is this a reflection on the new forum’s usage?
My Tech day threads usually have loads of replies by now. There are more replies over on the message I posted on the Nutz forum.

I’ll be kind and put it down to it being new year and all that, instead of there being nobody on this forum anymore.

I think the initial difficulties with the forum and trying to find it through the main OC page may have put people off it. I for one hardly ever come on here now, in fact this is the first time i’ve been on it since registering, and i’ve only come on to have a look at your tech day thread to see who’s coming along.

Might be worth looking back at who has been to previous ones and emailing them directly if possible, to let them know about it, just in case they’ve been put off the new style forum.

Good idea. I’ll get onto that this afternoon.

 About time too.[;)]

Right, where do I change the name bit, so that I can put my user name back on, as opposed to my actual name?

Goto your profile, click on about and fill your user name in the highlighted yellow square----------------

Cheers, I’d done that and it didn’t appear to do anything, but I think it has now.

EDIT- No, not yet, it did say it’d take about 10minutes to update though, so suppose i’ll leave it for a bit.

In Site options, make sure “Enable Display Name” is set to yes.

Halli,

I replied on “yahoo” group.

You have not got much planned for your car on the day…what are you going to do after 11.00.

I know!!

You can be the TEA BOY.

Milk no sugar for me thanks.

Jim

Peter,

On a slightly different item.

I will be popping into the “Vroom centre” at Boldon where we did the rolling road testing last year.

I am looking for a quote to renew the exhaust.

Can you remember the name of the guy you dealt with.??

 Cheers

Jim

Job’s a guddun
One phlegm or two?

Halli,

I would prefer my tea without phlegm…thank you, although it would probably taste the same with or without.

Regarding the tech day and my new hood.!!

I have been in touch with Jack Smiths of Swansea today.

I have a problem with wanting the glass rear window…as you mentioned before, I would have to cut out and send my glass window to them for them to fit to mohair hood and return to me. Bit of a clart about.

Mind you they quoted £260 which is a good price.

Anyway, after chatting to the guy at Jack Smiths we moved onto discussing leather covers for the seats and he quoted £270 to fit them.

So all in £550 for them to fit new hood and leather seat covers…Guess I am heading down to Swansea for a couple of days, Margarets going to tag along as well.

So I will not be attempting the hood change at the Tech day but I got the following of Santa and will bring them along to fit on the day;

  1. Plasma dials

  2. New CD radio

Jim

I’ll be along to this tech day. If only to meet everyone and play about in the pit!

 Great, see you then, then

Nice one

Easy jobs (on the Mk1 anyway )

Hey Halli, just giving you a heads up. I got my 5 earlier this week and I really think shes in need of a major service. Do you think I should book her in somewhere local to do the cambelt and waterpump and then I can do all the oil changes, spark plugs and consumables at the Tech Day under your instruction or could we, feasibly, do the cambelt too?
Oh and here she is

I’m not sure if anyone at the tech day will be up to a cam belt change, but why not buy the bits and bring them along (including new coolant and distilled water) along with the other bits you want to change?
That way, if someone can do the cam belt then happy days. If not then you have the bits ready for a mechanic to fit at a later date paying just the labour (and probably cheaper if you get the cam belt stuff from mx5parts)
I’m not sure, but I think the water pump is a pig of a job to do.
See you then. (nice car BTW)

I’m having a mini tech day tomorrow. My garage at home (not at the warehouse), me under the car, faffing with fitting the new rear brakes
All welcome, tea waiting

Wohoo, privacy issueon this forum has now gone so I’m using my official OC member’s account
