A random heatsink [SOLVED]

I am currently building an mx5 racecar and while stripping the headlights out have come across what looks to be a heatsink there is only one and it’s on the passenger side does anyone have an idea of what it is for? 

Is it just there too cool the wiring if so, would it be safe to remove if the headlights are removed or is it important that it stays on?

It’s for dim dip, dipped beam at a lower intensity.
