Accessory Belt - bit squeaky!

Its not a major problem by any stretch, just a bit annoying. As usual people have told me a whole range of tricks and old wives tales to cure the problem everything from WD40 (a quick search on the forum suggested to me this is not the road to go down) to chalk… or just replace/tighten the belt.

Ideas? thanx in advance.

Cold weather = low battery = high alternator load = belt slip = squeal.

Tighten the belt a bit or just charge your battery and wait for warmer weather.

umm, crayon/candle  rub on belt or talc (baby powder) quite messy!!! but hav heard they work a treat. goochie

Not sure why you would want to do any of the above, belts slip because the grip on the pulleys is incorrect, either the belt is worn, or out of adjustment.

Please DO NOT use talc anywhere near any moving parts on a motor car.

When mixed with oil it makes a very good abrasive and will take out your bearings very quickly!!!
