Used to have to undergo the IAM assessment every two-years as part of the safety protocols associated with my job. So did it ten or eleven times over a period of twenty-years or so. Also did a couple of skid pan training sessions and some on-track instruction. All of this was useful, often enjoyable and has hopefully made me a better driver.
I’m in both Rospa and IAM. For me the Rospa is better as you have to re do the test/assessment every 3 years to stay a member.
But, the IAM have “track” days around the country. These are great fun where you can put your skills learned to use in a controlled environment unlike some “open” track days I have been on where you do get cockwombles driving stupidly. OP should try one, he will enjoy!
Good to read this. I did my advanced test with IAM several years ago now and went on to be a qualified National Observer with my local group to help mentor a few more through the test, and hopefully have a positive impact on their driving. Don’t just polish the car, polish up your driving as well.
