Advice on rebuilding confidence after an accident

If the OP feels some sort of post collision course etc is needed, maybe he might find something on youtube or something, to save him shelling out £££

Regarding advanced driving courses etc, there are many superb youtube videos one can watch. But I’m not sure really, what course or video would have helped in the OP’s scenario; if an unseen total muppet is going to take off like an airplane and loose control of a car and slam into you, 8,000 driving courses and videos aren’t going to help in those situations.

Fistly, the car did what the safety aspects were designed to do and you are both okay from the impact.

Get back in a driving seat as soon as you can if you haven’t already.

As an ex job Advanced driver I can highly recommend you book yourself on an IAM Advanced course.
The observer/instructor WILL build your confidence back up and teach you many things you will carry on with instinct for the rest of your life.

Good luck.:+1::slightly_smiling_face:

It’s not about that, as I’m sure I said in my first reply. The post was about confidence.

This one was just bad luck. Although, if I’m honest, I have had at least one accident that was in no way my fault but which I could and should have avoided.

i agree with that, but in reality, compared to time back at the wheel, how much more confidence is really going to be gained by knee j*rk reactions and doing courses. I’d also think that the OP is probably a better driver than many a person on the road already. I base that on the albeit very loose assumption that enthusiasts/people posting on car forums may well be better drivers than the ‘average’ driver. Again, mass assumption, but common sense would err in that direction, and anecdotally, every one I know who are ‘into’ cars are decent drivers. So whilst I think- for anyone- spending some time learning new skills and ideas via watching advanced driving videos (I learned a lot from Reg Local’s book), and may well improve confidence as a whole, there is no substitute for time back on the roads. Again, just my opinon.

Years ago i had a friend who had attended ROSPA courses through his work. He used to sit in my car while i was driving telling me what i should or shouldn’t be doing. I nearly punched him in the face on several occasions!:rofl:

I have to say he was a very patronising person. But that was just another reason to want to punch him! To this day i don’t really understand why I was friends with him.
