On an iPad it’s at the top.
Plus one for sealing the scuttle cover screw inserts.
The gaskets under them are made of biodegradable foam and they all leak eventually.
A quick check is to feel the passenger carpet for dampness.
It’s a very easy job, so no excuses for not sealing them before they leak.
The previous owner may already have sealed them though.
I’ve got the same age car, probably due an air con re gas. Made a world of difference to mine.
So, I’m guessing it has been undersealed (see pics above). If anyone spots anything that doesn’t look right, just let me know.
Having owned a NB for 6 years where rust started to creep in on one rear wheel arch, I really want to keep it out of this NC for as long as possible.
I see rust on the curved section in this picture. It carries on along the bottom of that section. This is a typical area prone to eventually rot. Check both sides in that area.
Great, will do. What would you suggest putting on it? Waxoyl or something else?
I ground away most of the rust and applied Bilt Hamber hydrate 80. Then you can apply your underseal. I used Built Hamber epoxy mastic (black).
I just took it for a 30 min drive and noticed this going on with the oil pressure gauge when parked up and revved, or when accelerating whilst driving:
Any advice welcome.
Looks normal too me
On my NB it always sits in the middle after running the engine for 10 secs or so. I was expecting the same from a NC.
Apparently it’s not a real oil pressure gauge either. Yes that’s how they work though.
My NC does the same thing, it “reacts” with revs.
Thanks. That’s so weird. Why on earth would Mazda change it so dramatically between the NB and NC. Nonetheless if that’s normal, I’ll stop worrying.
Two things. As far as I know the pressure gauge pretty much just follows the revs and is not a real pressure gauge. Pointless and initially disconcerting. Secondly all cars will get fogged windows on recycled air and no AC. You notice it quicker on the Mx5 because of the small interior. Some cars cut off recycling after 10mins or so, it’s not meant to be used for long periods.
Thanks. I don’t think I ever used recycling on my NB, so never noticed. It’s just paranoid testing when we got our new (to us) NC on Sat.
Yes, that’s just crackers putting a pointless and completely different oil gauge on the NC.
Those aren’t the famous hood drains that a trombone cleaner comes in handy for, but they are indead drains (rubbers from the roof run to them).
I’ve just gone around all of the rubbers and cleaned them with Autoglym | Vinyl & Rubber Care about a tenner from autogylm or halfords.
The hood drains can be seen slightly further back under the deck when partially lifted (easiest from standing by the rear wheel). On NC’s they’re covered by a plastic grate. A quick search should bring up more detailed threads/pictures of them.
