Air Filter Ducting With Strut Brace Fitted

I have a 97 1,8 Mk1 (UK spec) and fitted a standard mazda strut brace from a roadster, to do so I had to remove the inlet ducting from the Air Filter box due to a foul condition.
The ducting was quite complex and contained a mufler, presumably to reduce induction noise, I would like to replace and tidy up the engine bay.
On some photos of MK1 engines the duct runs up the inner wing parallel to the front of the car and clears the strut brace. Does anyone know if the ducting from an early car would fit or has the filter box changed over the years?

Just to update and maybe help someone in the future using the search function - the ducting off an early Mk1 fits perfectly, clears the strut brace and tidys up the engine bay a little.

 Hi Nutter

I had the same problem yesterday when i went to fit my brace any chance of some pics of how the finnish job looks and what i will need from an earlier model.

            Regards.
