Alternator pivot bolt MK 2.5

Hi,

I am trying to replace the alternator belt and I spent the entire morning to figure out how to remove the pivot bolt behind the alternator, I can fit a wrench but it is nearly impossible to loosen that bolt, have you been through this problem?

Thanks in advance

Yes, these are a pain sometimes as corrode into the aluminium thread at the front.
Might help to remove the inlet manifold support brace but big leverage likely required.

I have had this problem. If the bolt really won’t shift it is possible to lever the alternator to change the belt. Not an ideal solution but it gets the job done.
Later I had to change the alternator and the bolt would just not budge even after soaking in penetrating fluid and using a propane torch to heat the front of the bolt. In the end I had to saw the lug along the bolt. It could then unscrew the bolt. 20 years of having water thrown at the exposed end of the bolt really causes heavy galvanic corrosion.
