Great idea…net zero the motorist and leave the cruise ships alone! Royal Carribean’s fleet puts out 4 times the pollution that all the cars in Europe put out.

I’ve had the misfortune to ‘test’ drive (don’t ask me how) 3 of those electric things, and been a passenger a number of times in another one. Depressing.

If the info about the MX-5 MK5 are true - every credit to Mazda for dropping a 2.5 in to it rather than strangling it completely to comply with Euro 7.

I’ve had completely the opposite experience, I was looking at replacing the main car and test drove various models including an electric car, I loved it on the test drive and still love 3 months later. I think it is very exciting times at the moment.

I had a Type R a few years ago, a great car but I think the suspension was built with concrete.

We still have a choice so yes. I’ve not tried electric yet but I suspect it’s quite a hoot: torque to die for😀

We’re a 3 car family… a full EV, a PHEV, and an MX…
The torque of the BEV and PHEV is exceptional… incredibly cheap to run and full of driver aids and safety sense… guess which ones get left on the drive all weekend?

For me, I like to drive the MX5 at the weekend, but that isn’t becasue of what propels it.

I’m a die hard fossil petrolhead. Not interested in battery powered vehicles, give me ICE all the way.

At some point I may well eat my words and buy a mobility scooter though.

This kind of mobility scooter is on my mind - haha

Probably a more involving experience than the three electric things I test drove.

Nothing we can do in the UK as we appear to be tied to EU rules.

Then you have the ultra Conservative view from the USA.

106 km/h. That’s 6-point territory unless if I’m very much mistaken.

We ran an FK8 for 5 years. The suspension was fine. We actually sold our MK3 Focus RS with really harsh suspension for the FK8 which was a big improvement on the Ford.

I had an EP3 for 17 years before I made the switch to my ND2 a couple of years ago. Absolutely loved it and it was still going strong at over 160k miles on the clock when I sold it.
Just fancied a change, and it’s a huge tribute to the MX5 that I don’t regret the switch.

Maybe it’s the lightness, manual transmission, ‘noise’, manual handbrake? Those are other things which were missing in those 3 electric things I drove. Well, it had noise, that weird space ship sound they do when they go slow.

Yes, it’s been kind of sad seeing my interest in cars diminish almost in real time since the ‘scrapping’ of almost every single car I’d have been interesting buying new/pre reg.
I used to read up a lot on cars; what’s coming next, reviews, checking ‘news’ etc, now literally nothing. I used to enjoy watching Youtube car reviews, but now is seems like many an outlet/channel/reviewer I used to like seems to be convincing themselves they’re actually enjoying whatever electric think they’re reviewing. Probably to keep the youtube revenue gravy train going. So those have pretty much gone from my viewing, too.
So yes, in essence, it looks like going forward it’ll be the used car market for a few years, as no way I’m buying one of those electric things any time soon, no matter how many £thousands they seem to be knocking off them in any attempt to sell them. It’s just a pity my car enthusiasm seems to be going with it.

In the 90’s and early 2000’s I used to have a real interest in cars, reading the magazines every month, but in recent years I’ve totally lost interest.

The electric car market has actually got me excited again, I’m finding the move to a new technology fascinating.
