Any alloy Wheel Manufacturers to Avoid?

Hi

I’m looking for new wheels and tyres for my Eunos to replace the huge 18" ones that came on the vehicle and have decided to go for 15".

I’ve seen some from BK Racing that I like but wondered if there were any manufacturers to avoid with regards to quality and premature corrosion?

Thanks

Generally, the more you pay, the better. Cheap wheels will corrode more easily, though even more expensive wheels can do this as well (eg. Mazda wheels). Generally, wheels carrying the correct construction standard markings, such as “JWL” “VIA” will also be structurally sound.

There are some good wheel offers in Rotas in the club member’s section.

Best thread I have seen on the Rota wheel debate:

I was told quite recently in a local car parts store that the most wheels they get back with buckles and problems are by TSW and Fox… He said to go for Team Dynamics as their tough, light and tidy cheap

Could it be the case that since they are cheaper, they are bought by people who don’t care about their car so much (if you know what I mean), so therefore get a pounding over kerbs and speedbumps?

Fox is fairly common on boy racer’s cars up here - so they may well fit my description: Cheap, so they buy them, but they drive like idiots and trash them.

Just a thought…

I’m going to get some new wheels fitted today, some 15"Dotz. I struggled to find any that I really liked that would be easy to clean and I like really simple, neat designs.

This goes part way to sorting out my rock hard suspension which I intend to sort out bit by bit over the next few months which will probably include new bushes and suspension units…

Wow! The ride is much better now, although not perfect. Those small bumps are much improved and a few rattles have disappeared! Larger bumps still harsh though but the car has done 138000 and it could very well be on the same suspension.

Black Roadster; if it has a red leather or black cloth interior, it could very well be still on Bilsteins (yellow shocks). These are a bit firm. Big 18" wheels will also inevitably wear out the suspension more quickly.
