I have a large mirror propped up at the end of my garage. When I drive my MX-5 in, I can see the reflection and just how close i am to the wall (which has been lined with carpet).
I can get it pretty close now with just enough gap for the soft cover to drape over afterwards. 
My garage has a recess towards the front which allows the nearside door mirror to miss the wall completely
