Anyone visited jack smith recently?

Hi

Was just wondering if anyone had visited Jack Smith trimmers in Swansea recently?

I have read some reports dated a while back about the costs of a mohair hood (£250 fitted?).

Does he still have a good relationship with the mx5 community?

 Cheers

£260 now i believe or about £200 if you want to fit it yourself.

There were plenty of good reviews & recommendations on the old forum. Not sure if they have been transferred here yet though.

I had a new one from him last year; no problems at all, and top value.

Wish I’d asked him to replace the tension cables at the same time though, as one of mine has gone ‘ping’ during the winter it seems. Guess I have to peel back the fabric now…

Over the year’s they’ve done many jobs for me seats, roofs, and they’ve always been very helpful and friendly.
I know Jack Smith died last year but i think his son’s are running it now.
They are in the lane off St Helens Ave which runs behind the old Guildhall in Swansea.
All the taxi drivers use them for seat covers, best thing is to go along and have a chat with them.

Have you got a phone number for him please ?

I used 01792 461 022 when i booked in, but that was quite a while ago now.

Hopefully you can get hold of them.

Thank’s, i shall try the number tomorrow

Cheers,

Mel

I had a new roof fitted by Jack Smiths is September 2010 for the grand price of £250 including a glass rear screen - Bargain.

12 months on & it still looks good, for the price you can’t go wrong! Plus they are really friendly, helpful chaps - it’s nice to put business their way. Thumbs up

I had a new mohair hood fitted last week for £260 and very pleased.

Good hood for silly money, I’ve had 3 hoods replaced on 3 different cars in the family (all MX5’s) using Jack Smiths.

One thing I would say though from very recent experience - make sure you ask him to tape up the rivet holes on the rain rail. He didn’t on mine (not sure if he does or not…) which has resulted in a rather annoying leak on the rear deck. I’ve had to strip out the rain rail & repair it recently to stop the leak. I had my hood done 2 years ago & it’s been leaking for that amount of time, albeit it has a hard top on in the winter.
