Are Solar Chargers any good?

Maplin have got one for £13. Are they worth buying?
I was thinking of having one on the parcel shelf behind the seats.
What would be the best way to get the wires in to the boot for battery attachment?

Remember the adage " you only get what you pay for".

It’s on sale at half price.[;)]

Can’t hurt - as long as it’s got a diode to prevent discharge when it’s too dark.
Do you suffer from battery losing charge then? - prob good for outdoor cars seldom used with a thirsty alarm…???

hi, had similar for my motorbike worked a treat

It will keep a healthy battery topped up but don’t expect it to recharge a flat one.

Got one fitted to both my MK1 and Cavalier. But god knows if it makes a difference. If you want one to charge the battery you probably need the 12V 12W one which is also on offer at the moment.

 Dont waste your money.

You’ll only get a few milli amps out of it on a sunny day. More of a gimmick than anything else and will make no difference to the state of your battery. Your battery needs amps to charge, you’d get more from a pack of 8 AAA batterys connected to you car battery.

Unfortunately the media have brainwashed us into thinking soar panels are a viable alternaitve to a lot of things, The reality is they emitt so little power that the cost of them outweighs any gains you might get. As for using them on your house a 2KW panel wont even run a standard kettle so you cant even have a lovely cup of tea.

“Agreed” with the last post, OK on a bike to (almost) negate the effect of an alarm if you have one fitted, but has very little effect to actually charge the battery.
