As a new member I joined without actually having my car yet! It was my Aunt and Uncles car (previous mx5oc members) and I’m super proud to have her with me.
Given her a really good tart up today and obviously been on a few good runs with her.
She is:
Mk3.5 2.0l Sport Tech
Metropolitan Grey
Bilstein Shocks
Bose Stereo
And very standard… for now!
Very nice, well I would say that as it’s exactly like mine. That’s before I tinkered with it and it got a case of road rash. Enjoy , oh and there’s always room for a Type R.
Welcome to the bug, lovely colour, I can highly recommend the Meister Zeta R Coilovers, totally transformed the car.
Also get yourself the MX5 things roof controller and a Dave Fab alloy coolant tank.
Hi David, thanks for the comment. When you say tinker…. I was looking to try and release a bit more drivability at lower revs, exhaust decat and change to a 4-1 seems a way but I’ve read remapping is good but looking for a decent option in West Mids? Cheers Iain
Thanks Mark (@essoman), just looked at the roof controller, great bit of kit.
Will take a look at the suspension setup as I think it needs looking at. Car was my aunts, only done 63k but feels like it’s pulling a bit left.
Any low cost performance mods your recommend?
Cheers
Iain
I think 4-1 manifold, exhaust & remap are decent improvements anything more on the power front will require big bucks. I’ve not touched that side of things but made life safer, being seen and improving road holding, with Meister coilovers, DRLs within the fog lights, reversing sensors and recently auto roof controller. The car’s fine for days out, Club runs and touring but if I was to go to track days then I’m sure I’d have to spend a lot more dosh. These cars are a rare item in that they can be all things to a wide range of people. welcome to THE Club.
Most would recommend a suspension geometry check, preferably by an MX5 specialist who will optimise the handling depending on your intended use.
I personally fitted Genuine Bilstein B6 Sport shocks (on Mk 3.5 standard springs) which are a vast improvement on the standard “Bilsteins” which are very ordinary but painted yellow. I also have a Racing Brat 4 into one and remap which is very good but not a great improvement in bottom end performance,
