Congratulations to Barbara Fogden on winning the MX5 class in the 2008 Richard Egger Insurance HSA Speed Championship.
In her first year of competition Barbara made a cautious start in her red 1.6 Eunos but quickly began setting some good times and picking up points. Early class leader, Dave Jones, dropped out at mid season after picking up some damage at the Goodwood round which allowed Barbara to come through and not only win the class but also come 8th equal in the overall Championship in which more than 100 competitors took part.
All this in a car which Barbara says initially cost her less than £1,000 - although a little bit more went on some modest improvements.
So this goes to prove that you don’t need bucketloads of experience or spend a shed load of money to compete successfully. The class continues next year in a championship which welcomes newcomers, has a scoring system designed to give everyone the chance to score poits and has an interesting calendar of at least 24 events.
