After weeks of convinving myself I needed some new tyres, especailly with winter looming, I thought a nice new set of wheels aswell would be a bit of a treat for my mk1.
Got on t’interweb and did a bit of looking around and the Rota Grids took my fancy, having seen various Rotas on this forum I do think they suit the 5. A quick flick through ebay brought up a used set, 15" in bronze with Toyo Proxes TR1s, with a starting bid of £250. So going only off the ebay photos I threw in a bid and waited, not really expecting any joy. Then, behold! I won 'em - £280 for a full set.
Having not seen them in the flesh (the seller was 80 miles away) I agreed to pay cash on collection. Went to pick them up last Friday a little bit sceptical - after all, £280 for four Rotas with Toyo Proxes?? Nay…
Well I was suprised. The wheels are like new with literally not a single scratch on them. Each of the four Toyos can’t have covered more than 500 miles. What an absolute bargain!! Got to work with the scrubbing brush and back-to-black on the tyres, then cleaned and waxed the wheels, and honestly I could have just walked straight out of a showroom with them - they are A1 condition! I really cannot believe it.
So, it just goes to show, there are genuine deals to be had on ebay… if you keep a keen eye and drop lucky!
