Battery for 20.i Sport

I’ve recently purchased a 2007 Sport 2.01i and having not driven it for a week I came to find the battery was flat.

I’m assuming i need a new battery - can anyone suggest a good one to buy?

Thanks

Robert

Yuasa YBX5053, I got for the NC’s from Tayna Batteries direct or via their eBay shop. Just make sure of the compatibility but all NC’s are pretty much the same type, connection poles etc.

Just to add, have you checked the battery condition, is it the original Panasonic?

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the info - yes, it’s the original panasonic.

Thanks again. Robert

I got that same battery from Halfords, currently discounted to £83 and you MAY get the MX5OC discount in addition??

Yuasa YBX5053 can be had for around £65 online

It’s probably done for but worth checking.

Welcome to the fold.

Nearly 20 years old!

That is amazing; that Panny is well overdue for a replacement. The car must have been well looked after.

I assume you have a nice modern Smart charger.

If you have the new battery delivered, first of all give it an overnight boost on the Smart charger before putting the battery in the car. Don’t be in the least surprised if the charger takes all night before it is happy with full charge in the battery - a big new bucket can hold a lot of electrons.

We can have no idea when the new battery was last charged, how long on the boat, how long on the warehouse shelf, etc. This first boost is basic good practice.

Even when almost empty of electrons a new battery will start the car a couple of times, so don’t be fooled into thinking it is full.
A 3Amp charger will take maybe 15-20 hours to recharge an empty 50Ah battery, the last 10% or so will taper down to avoid over-heating the battery. Don’t be tempted by a bigger fatter charger.

NC dark current is about 28-38mA after it has settled itself down to sleep (maybe twenty minutes), this works out at using maybe 1Ah per day if the car is not used; it should start OK after a month maybe with the new battery from full.
But I give mine a float on a tiny Smart charger about once a week.

Thanks to all for the great advice and help. Much appreciated.
