Saw from many other people here managing to get couple hundred pounds off insurance premium
I am definitely not good at this area, and my policy is soon to be due in for renewal
First thing is do is check main insurance companies, get online quote
then use price comparison websites and see if there is any cheaper
Then will start calling around
But I never really able to get much discount from them
is there any useful tactics which are commonly accepted in general cases and could be shared here?
Thanks
My tactics were pretty similar to yours - use price comparison sites, phone others and just see what’s available. Insurance companies mostly seem to just make up a number anyway, which means if you shop around you’ll see an enormous range. If you’re actually talking to a real person, rather than just using their website, you can mention other quotes you’ve got or extenuating circumstances (I managed to get 3 years no claims 'cos I’d been on my other half’s insurance for 3 years with no claims, and the two companies were owned by the same parent company).
In the end, I got my best quote from Admiral, using their multicar insurance - this took at least 20% off my quote, and saved my other half some money too. They were very helpful about it too, her insurance had 2 months left on it, and they were quite happy to give us 10 months insurance for 10/12s of the quoted price.
Other than “shop around” I’m afraid I don’t have any other suggestions for “tactics”, but I wish you luck! Maybe someone else’ll post the secret!
I used all price comparison sites to get the lowest qoute I could. I then used that price to ring brokers to get them to match/beat, I was cheeky and told them all £50 lower than I actually got on the comparison sites! You can keep at this and ring around again with the cheaper-cheapest price you get and some will have another go at matching…
Watch the excesses though. One company had a low price but £750 excess (ouch!). You can also look at limited mileage policies, mike is on 5k pa.
I am still a young driver so some insurance companies may not like me driving an import
21 yo 0NCB 1 year license
a quote for uk mk1 is about 850
quote for eunos is at least 1500, or I still havent found the right company yet
I think adrian flux has done a rather sensible quote to me, 1300ish but I need sort of lie them my occupation, putting my big part time job instead of uni student. which I dont think is a good idea
Will it be possible, to ask them match with my uk car quote? to be honest I dont mind paying little bit extra on eunos insurance premium as I understand the “grey” area of being an import. But imports are usually cheaper and better condition therefore I may end up spending the same amount of money
Or is there any insurance companies that you know will insure driver like me on an import at fairly reasonable price? Getting a good eunos is rather easy but a good uk car is a pain!
