I am tempted but that is a lot of money for 40 BHP @ £2195 Or maybe it’s not…?  I would love to hear why it’s good value… plus options for exhaust upgrade… Is this good value in performance terms?
Are there any other less expensive ways to get to the magic 200 BHP?
Tuning normally aspirated engines has never been cheap, ÂŁ2195 to achieve over a genuine 40BHP on a modern 4cyl engine is exceptional value for money for a well researched and developed fully fitted conversion. We do offer the conversion as a DIY kit but advise fitting only by Mazda dealers or well established engineering/tuning companies (not just fitters) who have experience of building the MZR engine.
Chris Unstead on this forum has recently had his done by BBR.(  He is a South East member.) I have spoken to him about it and I can assure you he is over the moon with the results . He didn’t go for the exhaust upgrade at the time, But after I saw and heard BBR’s demonstrator at a recent event at Santapod  I have strongly advised him to spend the extra and have it put on . It sounds awesome and add’s a few extra HP so i believe .

Can I just point out that I have nothing to do with BBR in a business , financial or any other connection .
Hi, thanks for the info, after some research I think BBR is the right way to go, spend a bit more but do it right. Do you have Steve’s username so I can PM for further info. Cheers. GAJA
I’m considering this as well for my Sport Tech and have been disappointed by the lack of independent reviews. I still haven’t seen any performance figures and whilst I can understand that BBRs demo car has all the options I can’t see me putting my hands deep enough into my pockets to pay for more than the 200 conversion at present so I’d be keen to hear about a car with just that option. The other thing is that BBR constantly quoting prices without VAT is misleading to say the least for virtually anyone thinking of having this done. There are very few of us who will be paying £2195 to have this done.
Yes, when I saw it I was interested , the turbo was out of my price range.
I get the impression that this kit is fairly new on the market? probably why there isn’t so much info on it. I did find a video which gives 0-60 in 6.1 which is good for a non turbo’ed car. I think the 200 BHP is conservative too as adding the exhaust mods takes it over 200 BHP
Argh… plus vat. I had been thinking about this conversion and until it was mentioned above about vat. I had not seen the small print. Over £400 of vat to add. I was just focused on
“Priced at just £2195.00 fully installed on a drive-in, drive-out basis, the BBR Super 200 package is perfect for 2.0i MX-5 owners desiring a quality upgrade backed by the track record and experience of the leading Mazda performance specialist. In addition, the BBR Super 200 conversion will also be available via a select number of Mazda UK dealers.”
Sorry you’ve been disappointed by a lack of independent reviews, Whilst we encourage our customers to review our services and products, most are busy people who unfortunately do not frequent forums. Over the years there has been but a few of our customers that have been kind enough to take their precious time and write reviews (which we greatly appreciate). We rely on the hugely critical UK press to give a true independent review of our conversions.
We encourage all interested parties to try and test drive our conversions for themselves rather than reading reviews, after all everyone’s opinion differs. You’re more than welcome to a test drive and to make up your own mind, such a shame you missed our open day a couple of weeks ago, a great opportunity to try our many MX-5 conversions.
A performance dyno graph shows the power gains compared to a standard vehicle on our website etc http://www.bbrgti.com/image_show.php?image=cms_images_extra_images/203_1_large.jpg there are many more examples on our facebook page . We do not offer 0-60 times with our conversions, these can so easily be misleading with soft top/hardtop, extended rev limits, different wheel sizes, tyre compounds, test surfaces etc, whilst offer in no way a real world performance comparison. A dyno graph shows all whilst also compensating for different temperatures and humidity on different days, the only way to truly compare and evaluate any performance gain. Prices of our products have always been quoted plus VAT due to export and trade, we always make this as clear as possible “All quoted prices exclude VAT”.
Give us a call we’re always happy to discuss our conversions…

Thanks for the reply. I will be in touch sometime and I’d like a ride or drive in your demo car although I gather from the Facebook page that the current car is sold but that will doubtless be replaced.

No problem at all, don’t worry we develop and test our conversions on more than one vehicle. A test drive is no problem at all when your ready.
Hi, Yes, I think he is on a couple of the forums, I have seen some of his postings. I am still wondering whether to go “large” and go the whole hog with the turbo conversion… I will have to see if BBR have a demo car I can test. Thanks for the info! Cheers. GAJA
Fair enough, I always see my modification costs as sunk costs so resale never really entered my head! Even at 38 my old man gives me grief about my habit, until I ask him how much he’s spent hitting a little white ball around some fields both here and abroad in the last year!
I know what you mean but BBR have a buy back offer, 50% of the costs you paid plus the trade value of the car. They are also very well known as quality conversions…
Horses for courses, or whatever they say, everyone has to have an interest & if you can afford it…
