That’s interesting. How was that discovered?
The awful engine noise. BBR didn’t want to sort it and said they don’t do that. It was fixed by another MX5 specialist.
There was a rather nice NC3.5 on Autotrader back last year going cheap due to a random engine misfire that the owner was struggling to get rectified.
It had the BBR Super 200 kit fitted and had been back to them but was not resolved, the thread is on here somewhere regarding it.
I saw it at a dealers a few months later for a lot more money, just hope someone did not get caught out with it.
yes, indeed the thread is on here somewhere regarding reliability/support and confidence in general that an extremely reliable stock car will not become a frustrating money pit.
Can’t just rely on impressions of youtubers driving loaned cars aiming for views/financial incentives
That’s not surprising from my experience.
From my experience, I would recommend Bofi Racing.
They are very knowledgeable, competitively priced and have excellent customer service.
I dont think Bofi do much with the NC and forced induction, I have heard nothing but good reports about them though.
As I’m near Bromley, I’d be keen on a specialist further down south, if possible
The whole idea of this thread is to help evaluate if throwing 7 grand on the NC3 will transform it into a 250bhp midrange beastie retaining all its other qualities.
Maybe it’s a pipe dream - would rather stay away instead of finding out the hard way.
I have no interest in building a track car, a garage queen or a ‘project’ - been there, done that, got the TShirt.
OEM reliability is at the top of my list at this stage of life, not interested in knowing every RAC guy by first name ![]()
I was keen on an NC 3 myself but knew i would quickly be wanting to upgrade it which is why i decided against it.
I would just take a look at the respected tuners of these cars which there are only a few, maybe give them a call to ask.
You may not find one locally but sadly it will mean travelling to get the work done but once the conversion is complete there should be no need to revisit them really.
I have not researched them but Duratec conversions not an option?
