If I can be massively narcissistic for a minute or two - look at me, look what I did at the weekend!
I entered round 1 of the 2009 British Drift Championship at Donington Park in my mk1 MX5 1.6. As some of you know it isn’t entirely standard, but no one was expecting much from it at the fastest track the BDC has visited. Especially not me.
To cut a very long-and-probably-not-interesting-at-all story short - I finished 13th in class (out of 32) and got 4 championship points. 70mph round the loooooong first corner felt amazing too - it seemed to go on forever.
Commiserations to Jamie K for having some issues with his 1.8 mk1 - mine has been so reliable, I’m sure you won’t have any more problems this year.
I may be out for the rest of the season - I have to miss round 2, which puts me on the reserve list. Now I did have myself put on the reserve list nice and early, but if I’m close enough to the top to get another place in the BDC I don’t know. Jamie K may have to do all the MX5 sideways tyre smoking stuff in the BDC.
Either way I’ll be at some Norfolk Arena practice days, and also at Barkston Heath in Lincs. I’ll post up on the forum somewhere when I know dates - passenger rides always available…
