“BERKSHIRE” Treasure Hunt 12 July 2009
See http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/1593.aspx for updates
Hi all
Those of you who have been in the club for a few years may remember the old Newbury Mazda Treasure Hunts that used to be run on the day of the British GP.
Well, Ian Govier, who used to organise these events, now has a Honda dealership nearby, but is still an approved Mazda service/repair agent. He is keen to revive the event this year as part of the 15/20 celebrations.
The date has been set as Sunday 12 July, 2009 which coincides with the German GP rather than the British one because of a change to the F1 calendar.
We’d like to have this as a joint area event (and part of the 15/20 celebrations, as Ian was a great supporter of the club in the past) so would be looking for support from other local areas (e.g. Oxford, Chilterns, South Central).
Ian still has contacts at Mazda UK and is hoping to get a MK3 Facelift car along on the day.
At this stage, planned features of the event are as follows:
-
Treasure Hunt driving around the Berkshire countryside
-
BBQ afterwards
-
GP playing on big screens
-
Potential for Tech Day corner
-
Alignment Centre open for half price geommetry work (Raffle for 1 free alignment)
There will be a £5 entrance fee and people can bring their own drinks.
Sounds like a great event. Ian is hoping to beat previous records and get 100 cars on the day.
Keep an eye out at http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/1593.aspx for updates.
Thanks
Mazda Chick

Just wanted to say that those who didnt go from the SE (lots) missed a brilliant day. Just Sarah and Martin and Jane and I convoyed over, will certainly be attendng again next year.
Hi Nick and Jane,
Yes totally agree, We did meet up with a few more South East members, Maxine, Rising Sun to name a few, what a shame no one else came along, there were over 70 cars and the weather was fab, okay so we had a few drops of rain in Kent, but drove all the way with tops down, the sun came out and the treasure hunt, Hog Roast and refreshments were top class and very tasty, the tech data from Planet MX-5, the wheel alignment at half price, and the dent man all giving members good discounts, it was a laugh, the quiz gave us time to use our brains mmm!!! and even a funny poem was to be written and read out much to my embarrassement mmm!!![:$] but gave everyone a laugh.
I am pleased to say that this will be a yearly event, so for those that missed out this year, you will get the opportunity next year, and I can say it is well worth it.
Thanks Nick and Jane for not leaving me in the lurch and for the nice fast drive to Maidenhead - Zoom Zoom.
Cheers

Couldn’t agree more Guys…the SE area members missed a great day out.
It might well have been a fair distance to travel, but well worth the effort.
Sarah, your commitment to the area and club and the amount of miles you put in to travelling to and from events amazes me…well done !! [Y]
Looking forward to next years event, let’s hope that we can make it 100+ cars…
By the way, I think your poem was great…
