I think the brakes on my Mk 1 need doing. How much should that cost??
Also may have a service done - what should that include and cost?
Thank you all clever MX5ers
Silvie
Search for “brakes” on the MX5 parts link at the top of the page and you’ll get all the parts prices for everything you’ll ever need.
Hello!
Would you happen to know the cost if having this done at a garage? And, would Mazda specific brake pads be required? How often should brakes discs be changed?
I wish I could do everything myself!! I feel I always get ripped off both in price and quality…
Thank you Captain! [:D]
Over and Out!

All easy job and a lot of people do there own on here. I would go for a genuen disks as thay last longer and a good fast road pad from some where like http://www.performance5.com/ as althow you may not be a racing driver good pads will last you longer and when some thing dose go wrong you will be able to stop in time.
Should all be done with in 1hour
Hello! [:)]
Many thanks for your reply. Say I’d have this done at a garage - how much would that cost me? Also - how exactly could I do this myself? I really wish I could but have no tools, wouldn’t knwo where to start and not even sure if I’d have the strenght for it…
Thank you again.
Regards,
Silvie & Autichko
How much to fit depends on the garage’s hourly rate; which could be £40-80 per hour. Allow 1.5-2 hours to do all 4 brakes.
I just had rear discs and pads changed by Mr Clutch (National Chain so you should have one near you). I bought the pads (Greenstuff) and discs from MX-5 parts, had them delivered the next day and Mr Clutch (High Wycombe) charged me £100 to fit them.
I checked with them first that they were happy for me to supply my own parts. They quoted me £190 for the rear if they had supplied and fitted their own choice of pads/discs but it ended up costing me £5 less buying my own parts and I prefer the greenstuff pads which I see as an upgrade.
Hope that helps
It rather depends on whats needed on the brakes. The discs hopefully won
t need changing unless you know differant?
If i was in your position i would ask on here for a recommended garage / mechanic in your area & have it serviced & brakes checked. You may find it only needs pads so wont cost a fortune.
Guys - this is absolutely fabulous information - exactly what I was looking for.
One Painted Man - can you please give me the links or the part names you have ordered from MX5parts? By the looks of things you also have MK1 which brake pads and discs (not sure if I need discs yet) did you get?
Thank you all again.

i bought package deal on mx5 parts first time to do this myself the hardest job was just doing the tention on rear calliper with allenkey take the lower bolt out and tighten it up untill disc is hard to turn then slacken off untill it moves free with handbrake off but if you come across a problem post it here even take a photo someone will help you out with an answer you dont need many tools a good socket set mainly and just enjoy learning soft top hardtop mag is good every month also this month was radiator change ect
Very encouraging - thank you. I still cannot imagine a girl changing her brakes on her own adn so that it is safely done - however I’d give it a go. Also, doesn’t the car have to be hanging with the wheels dangling to change the brakes? I also noticced that my old brake discs have little weights on them - woudl I be able to do that? Maybe I’ll start with smaller jobs first - like securing my battery in, etc.
I love the STHT magazine, especially good to see people that you know
So thank you for your advice - and I’ll go and read up on stuff.
Cheerio!
Harco!! Please can you ping the postal code, etc on how to get there - I only now read up about it and would actually like to go. [;)][<:o)]
