Breakdown cover, multiple vehicles

 Hi.

I’m thinking about getting myself some basic breakdown cover, which will cover me in both my Mazda and my daily driver (Volvo). Nothing fancy - I don’t need home start or lots of extras like that - just good basic breakdown cover that’ll either get the car fixed, or get it to somewhere that can fix it, whichever car I’m driving at the time.

Anyone got any recommendations of simple-but-good breakdown policies that cover more than one car?

Ta.

I have Fully comprehensive for my Roadster and I get a breakdown service thrown in and I am with Norwich Union, but that’s only for the roadster. I may consider them for renewal for my other car this year.

Therefore not really relevant to someone looking for cover for two (or more) vehicles … [^o)]

I’m with Autoaid (http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/ - as recommended by MoneySavingExpert) and it costs just £35 a year for myself and my wife for full cover in any vehicle. The way it works is that if you breakdown they will send a local repair / recovery truck to transport you, but then you pay the recovery driver and submit a claim to Autoaid, who refund you in full.

My mx5 broke down on the M1 on the first day of the breakdown policy and had to be recovered about 100 miles, which cost £250. Communication was excellent, the recovery driver arrived within the hour, and I was back home about 2 hours later. I paid on credit card and Autoaid repayed me the full amount very promptly.

So long as you have a credit card and not a debit card it effectively costs you nothing if you break down.

All in all they have been excellent and I would recommend them to anyone, especially given the price of the comprehensive cover on any vehicle.

What’s wrong with the A.A. ?  They cover you whatever car you are driving and even any car that you are a passenger in.My friend was recovered from the Isle of Wight to Berkshire after his exhaust manifold was ripped off by a farmers badly laid slurry pipe. He wasn’t a member but I was a passenger. Thats got to be great service!

Brittania Road Rescue are very good - they’ve won Which? best buy a couple of times.
You can have “Personal Cover” which covers you in any car you are driving or travelling in (would also cover spouse/partner in any car they are driving/travelling in)
As well as all the other options, home start, EU, etc etc…

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. If anyone has any more to add, please do!
