Before the Miata, my life felt a bit empty and foggy. Since buying my first MX-5, everything changed — I genuinely enjoy driving it, and almost immediately I started thinking about how I’d like to customise it.
At the moment I don’t have the space (or budget) to fully dive into building it physically, so my other hobby stepped in. I wanted a way to visualise different ideas and styles for the car.
I looked around for something similar but couldn’t find any tools that really do this for the MX-5, so over the past few weeks I started building a very early web app for customising a Miata (currently NA only).
Right now it’s very basic — just colour changes and camera controls (as you can see in the video ), but I’m planning to add things like:
wheel swaps
tyre options
body kits
wraps / decals
…and more over time.
The main question in my head is: Do people actually need something like this?
So I’d really appreciate your honest opinion:
Would you use something like this for your build?
Would it be helpful or just fun?
What features would you want to see?
Any feedback or ideas would mean a lot — I’d really appreciate it!
Just wanted to share a quick update and a short video showing some progress over the past few days.
I’ve spent some time tweaking the scene settings and materials, and it’s starting to look a bit better now. I’ve also added a basic wheel swap system — at the moment it’s using dummy alloy models just for testing, but the feature itself seems to be working, which I’m happy about.
The UI is still pretty rough, I’ll improve that later on.
Next step is to add some real wheel models, so I’d really appreciate your input — what are some popular alloy brands/models that are commonly used on MX-5s?
I did a bit of research and have a few ideas to start with, but I’d love to hear your suggestions.
Things like different grilles, splitters and other exterior parts are definitely something I’d like to add. I’m thinking of building it step by step — starting with wheels, then moving into body parts and more detailed customisation.
Would be really helpful to know what specific styles or parts people here would want to see first.
