Buying a new MX5 Queries

Hello all,

I’m thinking on buying a brand new MX-5 RF Exclusive-line 2L model as soon as the 0% APR deal is back on (assuming it does). I have a few questions though, I’m not sure if anyone can help?

  1. I was told today that I could buy one ASAP to arrive but only register it on the 1st of March for it to be classed as a 2026 car as they’re identical this year.

Is this true?

  1. Are you able to negotiate on the price of a brand new car from the dealership or are you limited to the RRP?

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I’ve bought the car, a “used” showroom model Buying a new MX5 Queries - #18 by LeahUK

I can’t help with the first question but 0% finance deals are usually dependent on paying the full RRP. It is worth checking if this works out cheaper overall than a deal with a discount on RRP and a finance deal with interest which might allow a lower deposit.

I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but I managed to negotiate over £4K off list with my local dealer by checking other deals on Autotrader and asking them to match so there’s defo some movement there. I didn’t ask if this was only on cash purchase but they didnt mention either

Always worth putting a query into Carwow and see what dealers are prepared to offer.

I’ve always managed to secure advertised finance rates and a competitive saving against RRP, but I can’t speak for the Mazda deal and their T&Cs. Only one way to find out!

Also make sure you do a full cost comparison against pre-reg vehicles and consider financing via another method. Last autumn I was offered a £7k saving against RRP for a brand new pre-reg with 10 miles on it, and I was only in my local dealer to pick up parts. That would pay for an awful lot of finance charges!!

Checking deals on Auto trader as in used cars or new?

I’ve had a look around for pre-reg cars (not a lot of looking tbf) and there doesn’t seem to be any for the RF models. Thanks for the info though!

Carwow is giving me a ~1.5k discount but that wouldn’t make up the 0% offer difference unfortunately :frowning:

Ok. And have you contacted the most competitive dealer on Carwow, to ask about finance arrangements?

There is no such thing as a brand new pre reg car. By definition, a pre reg has already been registered (by the dealership)., hence isn’t brand new. I know what you essentially mean though, I got mine like that, saved £6.5K at the time. Still though, it isn’t semantics, a pre reg car can’t be brand new by definition. It’ll have an prior ‘owner’ on the V5C.

No I haven’t, it states 4.7% or something similar. I assumed that wasn’t liable to change? Sounds like I may be wrong though, so I’ll get on that.

For new cars. For instance a quick search just now listed one with almost a £5.5k discount

That’s why you need to do a whole cost comparison.

If you’re getting £5k off at 4.x% APR, for example, that may well prove the better option against RRP and 0% APR…

For sure, but it was only 1.4k, I doubt they’ll make up the other 3.6k, but like you say.. its worth asking I suppose.

Not necessarily (full RRP). We bought our new 24 MX-5 via Carwow and achieved a decent discount and 0% over 48 months and the Mazda contribution and £750 extra discount because we already had a Mazda registered at our home address (our previous MX-5). Did require a 50% deposit though, which of course might not work for everyone.

I saw an advert today suggesting the 0% offer (50% deposit) is currently available again.

That’s for HP. I’ve managed to snag a 2025 plate for a decent price anyway. Hoping to pick it up on Saturday! Super excited

I think it’s Machine Grey (the best colour) :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
