Buying an MX-5 - ND1/2 or new ND3?

Yes, he could get something like this and re-vamp an old fashion. He’ll look cool as heck standing by his ND looking like Crockett

I have the white/ivory leather seats, and provided they have been treated with a decent leather balm, (i use Autoglym) any marks from jeans etc can be easily cleaned off. I wear jeans all the time and never have any problems. :+1:

Currently £25 on fleabay.

We have white leather in our other car (Volvo). Allegedly they treated the seats, whatever, no marks in 8 months or so, almost always in jeans!
The main thing is to enjoy your car, if you worry about marking the seats you’re doing something wrong. Being sensible and owning an Mx-5 is something of an oxymoron anyway!

As its your “retirement” present and probably your last MX-5 (i guess) i would defenitly go for the ND 3 184, i beleive it will hold its value very well as this version (184) is becoming rare as in many European country’s you cannot order the 2.0’s anymore…only 1.5’s. But…not a brand new one as you would lose to much money on that, a nice low mileage looks (to me) the right way to go.

If you need to reproof a roof, you’ve more issues than a temporary lick of a ‘waterproofer’ will solve.

Hi ND12, not an issue of waterproofing as it doesn’t leak but merely a desire to make it look “as new”. Roofs do fade in the sun and I’ve had success with Renovo on other convertibles in taking them back to that “black like new” state.

In fact I gave the MX-5 a quick going over with Renovo cleaner, black stain and then re-proofer prior to our Scotland trip and it came up like new. The only faff is keeping the stuff off the paintwork but I managed.

Still delighted with the car after 2307 miles around Scotland.

Looking forward to attending some club meets.

That white leather is genuine Nappa in areas, and can get ruined using over the counter stuff. Nappa got to be hydrated, pores not clogged, and not overly treated, even with the right products.
Have a read of this guy’s outline of caring for NAPPA leather. Superb. I actally use the same products of genuine leather sofas. Personally I’d use nothing, than use typical Halfords style over the counter ‘leather conditioners’

(note he now uses Smiths all natural leather balm, which I got too, by coincidence, as it was the nearest (ingredients wise) to the Maadgoods one, which at the time seemed only a US available one)

The Dr.Bonner’s Castile soap is easily available.

Of course, the burgundy Nappa ones in the 100th AE and R-Sport etc, same deal)

Yes, I am clueless with the dye stuff as mine lives under 2 half covers, so rain, frost, damp, UV exposure is of course reduced.
