Hi,
I’m shortly taking delivery of an S-Reg Mk2 1.8S. I think it comes with a factory standard fit immobiliser, but I don’t think there’s an alarm (the keys were just standard looking keys, no remote fob).
I’d like to make my car a bit more secure as it’s parked on the street, which might help cut the insurance premium too.
A blinking light might dissuade someone from doing stuff to it. I’ve had people kick my door mirrors before (I could tell by the footprint on the paintwork) so something that goes off if that happens would be good.
So… can someone confirm if I’ve just got an immobiliser as a standard fitment?
And are there any good alarm fitters in the Milton Keynes area?
And what makes of alarm would you recommend?
I’m after value + quality… with an emphasis on value
Yes, you have an immobiliser as standard (transponder chip in ignition key).
The previous owner of my 5 has fitted it with a Clifford Concept 300 alarm system, which based on experience so far seems very good. People also seem to speak very highly of Toad alarms …
Cheers for that…
I did hit Clifford quite early in my googling, but the only thing putting me off them was that a lot of their alarms are marked as ‘Not Insurance Certified’, but I searched for the Concept 300 and that is Thatcham 1, so, by that tag it must be…?
Googling also came up with www.ElectrifyingTouch.co.uk and they have quoted me:
... which seems to be right ball-park for a fitted alarm, from what I've gleaned so far.
There are loads of Cat 1 alarms on Ebay going for ~£100 ... has anyone here fitted one themselves? I'm a bit worried that I'm a bodger when it comes ot most jobs, but if it's not too tricky and doesn't need any specialist tools, then I'd be able to save some cash on the fitting and put some of it towards a better alarm.
But... if self-fitting means the insurance company won't allow it towards a discount, then I'll pay the fitting.
Another question: what's the story with the Mazda central locking? Does it lock from the passenger's door? ie. will I need a motor fitted to the driver's door for remote locking / unlocking?
