Car alarm wont turn off

Hello all,

I have mark 1 s special and never use the alarm due originally to a faulty key fob which wouldn’t switch off the alarm. The current problem seems to revolve around the car battery, which goes flat after about 3 weeks of non use. When I try to start the car with with a sluggish battery the alarm goes off and its a hell of a job to stop it.

I therefore bought a battery charger to top up the battery and hopefully put an end to the alarm problem.Put the battery on car today fully charged opened car door off went the alarm I jumped into car which started first time . At this point the alarm was sounding , the engine running and I was frantically pressing the fob to turn off the alarm. Gave up and disconnected battery to try another day.

Has anyone got any idea what’s wrong ?

Thanks in advance…Freddieboy

The alarm may have a backup battery, so that if the car’s battery is disconnected, it can continue to sound - perhaps this has gone flat and is playing havoc.

Flat batteries can cause a lot of issues with alarms, with symptoms as you describe, but if the battery is now working fine, then that should not be an issue.

You will possibly find that the fobs are inoperative when the engine is running.

Posting details of the alarm might allow somebody to give a bit more help.

I did check to see if there was a backup battery but couldn’t find one. Decided to cut the wire to alarm and maybe try again when the weather warms up.  The alarm is a Gamel and quite a few years old I would imagine. Thanks for your comments
