car cleaning as therapy = a chore or not

during my working life, at times there was quite a bit of stress involved, but from my first car at 17,a ford model Y 1934 bought for £15, ive always enjoyed cleaning my cars, and for an hour or so, i generally get totaly imersed with the job in hand, and get that feeling of a job well done, and afterwards, sitting there with a nice cup of tea, or whatever   looking at your shiny steed,  stress  what stress,  its gone,

am i sad or what

A day’s cleaning can make the Monday run into work just that bit better sometimes… [;)]

Cleaning a 5 properly is a very pleasant task and good therapy…

cleaning the daily drive is a horrible job…

I hate washing cars of any sort, thank goodness for the jet wash!![:O]

No you are not sad, if cleaning your car relieves the stress, why not? Chopping firwood sticks used to do it for me, if I didn’t concentrate on what I was doing my fingers would have been among the sticks.

I find it incredibly therapeutic; get the car out , get the ipod in the docking station and get the kettle on.

Sounds ideal until the kids want to help!

There’s nothing more rewarding, when it’s all done too look and admire !

On another note small rust spots and/or scratches can be spotted before they get ugly and expensive to repair.

that takes me back pollyana,  i used to supply fire sticks to most of my grans neigbours in her road, at 3p a bundle, in the early 50s,  [;)]  when real people had real fireplace fires.

and come on geof, you know you like cleaning your little beauty, it would be like assult and battery, using a jet wash on  (it), (her),  [:D]

Hi leemarb

A definite therapy for me, love it when neighbours and public look on with that WOW expression, just can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can start on my 5.

Have been the same with all my cars and bikes. . . . . now where’s that polish [;)]

No, Lee, I really hate it. I pop down to the local car wash every once in a while and give the old girl a quick foamy wash and then a blat round the lanes to dry her off. We’ve got one of these fancy high pressure, no brush car washes, I was tempted until the last time I went when the 4x4 in front of me had the cover blown off the spare wheel

It’s very relaxing, gives you time to think things over and clear your mind.

Now doing the garden, that’s a chore…

Nah not sad i love cleanin my 5 in fact gotta stay clean which gets a few comments! bless her. the garden mines tiny can mow it sittin down drinkin a beer no flowers no bushes no hassle, god sounds boring but cant waste time in the garden goin to the coast in a shiny roadster sounds much more fun, bring on the sun!

In my younger years I would be neurotic about cleaning the car spending 4-6hrs twice a week on it - borderline OCD LOL [^o)] so it wasmt a chore and not theraputic either… more of an illness LOL

Anyway I am quite good now at the weekly wash for the 5 and the annual wash for the “other” car but I am drifting further and further towards the detailing temptation which is dangerous ground for me… I will end up off my head again [;)]

I find a good cleaning and not quite detailing but series of polish and wax session on my 5 to be a rally great time spent.

forget all my stress, learn all about the state of the car and do those other little bits and pieces while im out there.

Then enjoy how it looks for quite some time.

Ok, I confess, I do like cleaning some things…I spent 3 hours on one of my vintage guitars this arfo…looks a treat

I love cleaning cars as well!  Always have done, even as a child I would clean the families cars.  There is nothing better than in the summer, clean the car (inside and out including wax) then to stand back and observe…  it may seem sad but it is very calming!  In days gone by the stand back to view would also involve a cigarette…  thankfully that filthy habit has been knocked on the head and the 5 is the first car I have owned since being a non smoker - so no ash to clean! LOVELY!

I like cleaning my cars too, even though one of them doesn’t have shiny paint.

I particularly like washing cars after high speed runs 'cos you can see how the air moves around the shape from the dirt trails - my Kamm tailed mk1 CRX was excellent for this.

My 5-series was a chore to wash, but only because there wasn’t an interesting or attractive line on it. If it hadn’t have had a stupendous engine I wouldn’t have bought the ugly thing. Washed it twice I think.

lets face it geof,  you had three hours of therapy,  stood back, looked at ya handywork,  and smiled to ya-self  [;)]
the wife possibly wouldent agree,  but my car cleaning therapy has kept me pretty normal over the years

i think   =   qwer  ,tyui,  iopa,  sdfg,   ghjk,  klzx,qbnm  === ok == well,it comes and goes [:D] [:$]

Washing the car is like cutting the grass, you destress and get an instant result. It’s what Sunday mornings were invented for![:)]
