CBS Autos Nelson Solved MK3.75 non starting

I was baffled. Four days ago I attempted to enter my 2014 MK3.75 2 litre Sport Tech Recaro using the key fob, the door would not open but I successfully opened the door with the key. Car started 1st time, thereafter it would not start, cranked the engine a couple times, tried the spare key, tried re-locking the doors & unlocking without success in starting the engine.
(Everything surely pointed to the immobiliser, reminded me of my MK2.5 problematic immobiliser a few years ago).
A trip to Carl at CBS Autos Nelson BB9 7BJ 01282 697413 ww.mx5specialists.com
in my trusty Eunos 1.8 S Special.
**Carl’s suggestion disconnect the battery wait a few minutes re-connect
.SUCCESS car started 1st time, 15 mile drive to let the ECU go through its business, SUCCESS.
Simple when one knows how!

Nice one Keith.
If memory serves me right, this issue has come up before, perhaps a year ago on this forum.
Pleased that the solution was very simple.

When you say disconnect the battery, was that just the negative lead?

Do both and press the brake pedal for 10 secs to drain any current in the system after disconnecting both terminals.

I can understand the possible benefit of pressing the brake pedal, but I’m really struggling to understand how disconnecting both battery terminals would be any different to/better than just disconnecting the negative terminal.
