on locking the drivers door the lock makes a strange noise but doesnt lock the passenger door!!

while im posting, does anyone know how to just have the side lights on without the headlamps poping up, ive seen a couple of 5’s like this.the car is a mk1 1.6

Are you locking the car with an aftermarket alarm/remote central locking, or is it good old ‘key in the door’ stuff?

thanks for the light link, im using the key in the door locking system. ive had the passenger door trim off, and the actuator is free to move, and tries but not enough to lock/unlock the catch.
