Changing discs/pads on MK2.5 Sport

 There are plenty of guides out there on changing the discs/pads on an MX5, but I cannot find anything for the bigger brakes as found on the Sport, and a few other models.

Is this because it is the same, or are there simply no guides?

The same, the only difference is the slider pin stays in the caliper bracket and there is a 12mm head bolt that bolts the caliper to the slider. You need a thinish 17mm open ended spanner to hold the slider pin while undoing the 12mm. It’ll become clear when you do it. NC is the same.

 Do you know the torque settings?

EDIT:

Are they the same as standard? (As here http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/p/333/517.aspx#517)

I’ll look them up and let you know ASAP… I just do them up tight enough so as they don’t come undone but not so tight that the bolt shears off, if that’s any help for now [;)]

 Cheers, I got them done today/night, and everything seems fine

I used the torques in the document

 When you changed your pads was there a spring at the back  holding the pads in place as shown in the guide?  There wasn’t on mine.  I’ve got the new discs on and pads in but when I bolted it all back together it was that tight the disc wont rotate.  What is the best way to get the piston back into the calliper fully??

 No, there are not any springs (I think that was just a MK1 thing?)

I assume that you mean the front callipers (the rear ones have the hex key thing). Ideally you should use a G-clamp, which will apply even pressure over the piston. But, if you don’t have one (and can’t get one because your car won’t move), use a reasonably thick piece of wood over the piston, and a piece of wood (such as a hammer handle) that you can slide in and rotate round to apply pressure.

I know that is not very clear;

Piece of wood against piston
Something like this http://www.hardwarestore.com/media/product/669963_front200.jpg to fill the rest of the space between the wood and the edge of the calliper, which when rotated (not levered) will apply pressure.

Does that make any sense at all?
