Changing mk2 sidelight

Replaced the headlight bulbs on Liz’s mk2 today and that went fine, but one of her sidelight bulbs has gone too and we can’t figure out how to remove the existing bulb to fit the new one.
The bulbs just push into place but I couldn’t get the grey plastic holder for the current sidelight bulb out. It can’t unscrew since its a square hole, there didn’t seem to be any tabs or catches to push but yet brute force couldn’t “encourage” it out either.
So anyone know what the trick is?

Hi Miko

There shouldn’t be any need to remove the grey part of the bulbholder, the old bulb should just pull out and the new bulb just push in.

Should be a standard 501 bulb.

Hope that helps…

Hiya, yep got some spare bulbs just like that, just can’t work out how to get them into the car

When I looked at the grey holder its not the end of the bulb I see though, it looks like the reverse of the electrical connection it sits in, which was why I was assuming I took the entire holder out, remove the bulb from the front end to replace it.

Got any photos of what you mean miko?

Hi, I’m having the same problem and can’t figure it out no matter how much I stare at it. I’ve tried pulling, twisting, allsorts but cant get it to budge, I’m sure I’m missing something really obvious! Any tips would be much appreciated! Below is a picture of the socket:

Sorry forget the above. After taking a look at photo I just posted, saw that they twist out! Sure I tried that yesterday! Embarassed But its worked first time now. Right off to see whats wrong with the fan!

Thanks!
