The garage are happy to cover the cost to switch the converter. Booked in to get it replaced.

Yes the garage I bought the car through paid for the replacement of the DC-DC converter. Total bill was around £1300, which was parts, £825+vat plus labour.

Its ALOT of money for a part Mazda should be replacing free of charge if if it has issues.

True, and extend that to the hub carrier bushings guys, which eventually will probably effect EVERY pre '23 plate ND.

It means your case, saying Mazda really should foot the bill, is akin to many an ND owner whose rear suspension spherical bushings fail, often very prematurely, due to them being, essentially, rubbish, and if going through Mazda to replace them, costs north of a £grand on each side of the rear axle. It is annoying when parts which were poor from the start see the owner having to foot the bill, eventually.

Hi there.

My 2019 ND has had the “Charging System Malfunction” a few times and resets after turning off and on again. Mazda suggested replacing the battery current sensor then the battery then the alternator which I’m not prepared to do unless I know they’re the cause.

Has anyone with this problem ever had it recur after fitting a new DC/DC converter.

Can anyone recommend a repairer in the North West who can fix this for me without changing every electrical component on the car?

Simplest first check is that both terminal clamps are making a good firm connection to their battery posts.

I assume this has already been done, but my RAC rescue guy told me he finds it’s amazing how many cars seem to drive around with “loose” battery terminals!

I had this fault on my 2019 ND. The checks mentioned your dealer are the same as the checks that my dealer suggested, however after booking the car back in they came back to me to inform me that Mazda had told them that it was the DC/DC Converter was at fault and they would order one for replacement on my car on the day it was booked in for. The replacement DC/DC Converter solved all the issues I had had (which were the same as yours). I would get your dealer to contact Mazda UK about this issue, which is known to Mazda before they spend time and your money replacing battery current sensors, the battery or the alternator.

I had exactly the same issue on my 2018 Fiat 124 Spider (built on the MX-5 ND platform).

Turned out it was the battery… failed at 7 years old.

Yes, on an '18 car they didn’t have the DC/DC converter. SO of course you’d look for it being a different issues. Mine an '18 plate and also still on the original battery!
