Chrome plates behind the hood

Hi All
The chrome plates between the boot lid and the hood (attached with the large Torx screws) need a bit of TLC. Can I undo the Torx screws and remove the plates to clean them without something major falling off or coming loose?

Yes should not be any problem just unscrew the bolts and lift them off , but it might be a good idea to reseal them underneath with something as they can be prone to leak.

Hi Captain… thanks for the advice… what is the purpose of the plates…is it something to do with the hood?

There for putting Frankenstein bolts in for securing a hard top.

Thanks!

If there the same as mine,( 2006 Mk3 ) they’re plastic, so be careful, but you can buy new ones from MX5 parts if necessary .

Worth taking them out and cleaning the void where they sit, but be careful polishing the chrome, as mentioned earlier they are plastic. Warm soapy water is good. Bolts will polish.

Hi… Thanks for the advice… I need to be careful!

Hi… thanks for the advice… what should I reseal with?

Hi Wooders clear silicone should do the job .

Excellent… tha thanks… I was thinking of petroleum jelly but silicon is more permanent!

No problem Wooders. Good luck refitting.

Yeah…plastic fantastic.
Neighbour round the corner broke one fiddling around
Old school chromed steel on the Mk1 to Mk2.5’s buddy :+1:
Which was fine…till they corrode solid!

Yes don’t over do it tightening the tor’s bolts down.
