Sounds very expensive, replacement engine or rebuild?
The garage owner reckons he can have it running as well it was before in fact stronger than before. I trust him quite a bit, he’s been working on Porsches and many other high end and modified cars for over 30 years and has had a few MX-5’s in his time. His garage is well thought of and the tow truck driver said that he’s one of the best around. He’s a massive car enthusiast and he’s good friends with a mate of mine and if he thought I’d need a new engine he would say so, as he reckons he can make it stronger than it was I’ll trust his judgement.
He’s currently putting a price list together as I’ve asked him for a few choices including mods that aren’t needed to make it all work again such as lightened flywheel. As the engine is all apart I may as well look at some improvements as the labour won’t change much with it all needing to be put back together no matter what is used.
What’s the latest news?
Waiting for one or two parts including new lightened flywheel and replacement clutch, thought I might as well get them in while the engine was all apart. Garage should have them all on Wednesday and the car should be ready by the end if the week. I’m having to cycle the ten miles each day into work at the minute which I suppose isn’t a bad thing.
Well it’s all back together and had a good run in period (600+ miles), took it back to the garage this morning and all is well with it
That was my cue to take it for a quick hoon and straight to the Yorkshire Moors, a quick blast along the Helmsley TT and I’ve got my smile back. I’m loving the snarling popping exhaust I got a little while back and the drive was great.
I’m gonna sort myself a trip into Teesdale the middle of next week I reckon and give it a right good thrashing
