Clutch judder or Engine mounts? 1998 Mk-2 1.6

Hello,

Ive just bought my first Mx-5 and it is suffering from occasional vibration when pulling away in first or reverse gear.

I imagine this is due to iether a clutch problem or engine/ gearbox mounts.

The engine is not rock-steady- you can generally see movement on the gearstick when idling, Being new to them I don’t know if this normal for these cars?

Any thoughts on where to start looking much appreciated.

What model and age of 5 is it ?  NB Facelift models have a history of clutch judder if its one of them, from approx, 01 to 04 if I recall correctly…
