Clutch Problem

coming off the motorway, stopped at lights, then my clutch wouldnt come up, so it stalled.
pedal came back up when i turned car off, but stalled when on as i couldnt get it out of gear.
a bit of force got it out of gear & it started fine. now my pedal is completely baggy.

Had no prior warnings to this

gearbox works fine when car off.

got towed home and top left of engine was covered in fluid, as was the road.

Its the circled bit, appears to have a hose hole at the bottom, but no hose in sight… Am i looking in the right place?! (pic of a friends engine, not mine!)

Thank you in advance

Sounds like the pipe to the slave cylinder has parted company with the master cylinder. Needs a mechanic to sort it, unless you are handy with a spanner

 Thank you.

I do intend to get a mechanic, but i wanted an idea of what was wrong as i dont want the mechanic guy to try swindle extra dollar out of me!

Ummm, where exactly might the departed pipe be? still attached somewhere?

(yes, i really am i novice!)

The other end of the pipe is probably still hanging off the slave cylinder - it’s on the side of the gearbox and you might be able to see it if you look through the right hand front wheel arch.

How much to fix it depends on what has broken - look on MX5 parts for clutch master cylinder (worst case and most expensive bit it could be) or clutch pipe (cheaper and more likely).

It should take an hour or so to fix.

Thank you, you’re all being super helpful
