Hi All,
I have a couple of niggles with the brakes on my 97 MK1 (non ABS)
1, Just started getting a slight judder/vibration through the brake pedal on heavy braking. Only started doing it today. Car had been sat for a couple of weeks so I thought a quick blast and some sharp stops would blow and corrosion off them. Didn’t work. Discs aren’t new but have a fair bit if life in them and the pads (ferrodo I think) have plenty of meat left on them. Don’t appear to be binding as the car doesn’t really pull and the wheels don’t get red hot.
2, On doing these brake tests I noticed the inside rear wheel was more willing to lock than the others. The rear calipers were replaced recently (kept existing pads and discs but these are the same condition as the fronts). Fluid (5.1) was changed late last year and all bled thoroughly. Got half decent Goodyears on the rear and correct pressures. I would have thought that under extreme braking, having an axle lock in pairs would be more stable than individual wheels locking up. I suppose if the fronts lock up you lose steering and if the rears lock you get tail happy (that is until you realise what is going ion and start cadence braking) Is there a way of adjusting the brake bias?
Thanks
