Cracked Chassis Rail

Just had my MX5 mot’d and received an advisory on the front nearside chassis leg where the front suspension mounts - there is a small stress crack - has anyone experienced this? And is it feasible to effect a weld repair? My garage suggested selling the car before it got worse!

Also advised on some corrosion on the outside rear of the nearside sill that looked as if it had been repaired with filler by a previous owner - I have recently had similar work carried out on my Triumph Stag that used a lower wing and sill repair panel - are these available for the MX5?

Sorry, not much help on your chassis leg but the rear sill is an easy repair, any half decent body shop will be able to fabricate you a new sill or just buy a bespoke panel (MX5Parts do a whole rear quarter panel or you can find arch panels from various companies, just Google) See link below:

I suggest if you are having rust problems you get the whole arch replaced at the same time as the sill section, if you’re not going to do the filling / repainting yourself it won’t cost much more time for a garage to do the whole thing.

G’day mate, Welcome to the Forum

This sounds like a new one [the front suspension mount] any chance of some pics?
