Custom cold air induction system..

Heyy!

Mazda MX5 MK1 Eunos Roadster.

Decided to fabricate myself a cold air induction system, with a custom cold air box behind the left headlamp.

Firstly, has anyone done any custom modifications like this before?

Secondly, i’ve noticed on the standard tubing from the air filter to the throttle body there is a pipe that joins for crankcase ventilation and another pipe joining from the bottom of the throttle body… Will these need to be re-joined to my intake system?

Thanks,

Adam

I think ( and i hope someone corrects me if im wrong) that one of those is for the idle air control valve air suppy, so you will need that. Its what gives your car enough air for idle as you wont have the butterfly open as you are not on the throttle.

The other is for clearing the oil vapor from the top of the engine. In the past many people have fitted a small filter there on the side of the cam cover instead and others have installed a oil catch can. Now venting this oil vapor back through the engine does have its downsides. However, ive been reading up a quite a bit and consulted my mate who really knows his stuff on these things (he is an automotive engineer) and from what I can understand its best the way mazda designed it. Which is what has put a hold on my own custom intake system as I now want to incorporate both of these bits.

have fun.
