DAB aerial suggestions

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC
  2. I’m based near: __Liverpool
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __DAB aerial

Hello everyone, this week’s issue with my NC is when I bought it three weeks ago it has a Kenwood head set fitted bot won’t pick up DAB radio, I presume it needs a DAB aerial any recommendations or suggestions. All help and advice is appreciated as usual, thanks everyone

I think the Mk3 has an aerial amplifier but I don’t think they had DAB (at least on the 3.5) so it won’t work well anyway.

If your head unit has a separate aerial input for DAB there might just not be anything plugged into it. If so you could put a separate powered DAB aerial maybe on the screen.

I suspect just changing the aerial won’t work. My Mk4 has about a 400mm aerial which is 1/4 wave for DAB. The Mk3 currently on my drive has one about 300mm but I’d expect you to hear something if it was connected.

Edit - I should say I’m not a real ICE installer - there may be smarter solutions and definitely some things I don’t know.

I just bought the Kenwood windscreen one for mine,(Kenwood Unit fitted) which works fine. Quite discreet too in my opinion. Also easy enough to fit without stripping out and faffing about.

Some like them some not.

You can get a double type (DAB/FM) of aerial to fit in the existing wing with various cable routing.

I did see a thread on here somewhere giving the details how to do it etc.

On my last 2 NC’s I had DAB head units fitted replacing the original aerial with a dedicated DAB one. Sounds quality is great and it looks good as well.

I got this one for my Kenwood HU, works great, didnt even have to strip any paint to install it:
